In our Community...

There has been a good news in our church community. Taking Care of our Environment becomes one of our church programs. Most of our chuch members involve in recycling organic and inorganic trash. Everyday they must seperate the two materials. The inorganic materials are trash paper, plastic, boxes, etc which has to be put into a big plastic trash bag. The inorganic materials are raw vegetable left over whichhas to be put in a drum and mixed with soil and manure for fertilizer.

As part of this church program, my mom and her friends visited a place close to our community where they can learn about ways to take care of our environment. The people in the community tought them how to make firtilizer, planting vegitables, planting herbal trees, recycling organic and inorganic trash.

Experiment

Material:
-Old newspaper
-Blender
-Coat hanger
-Nylon stocking
-Bowl
-Iron
-Cutting board
-Paper towel

Recycling, reducing and reusing are ways to prevent climate change. Therefore my group and I chose to recycle newspaper and turn it into a new piece of paper. By reusing newspaper we can reduce deforestation. Therefore we don’t have to cut down trees as much as we did. If we reduce deforestation, our environment will have more trees which produce oxygen and prevent our environment from flood and landslide.

Procedure:
1: Gather up old sheets of newspaper
2: Take a piece of newspaper and tear it apart (don’t cut them)
3: Place the pieces of paper in a blender
4: Pour hot water onto the blender
5: Let the mixture flow for about 10 minutes
6: Then turn on the blender at full speed
7: Bend the coat hanger until its shape is like a loop
8: Cover the looped up coat hanger with an old nylon stocking. This will be our screen
9: Place the ‘screen’ over the bowl and pour the liquid to the ‘screen’
10: Now place the 'screen' between two sheets of paper towels.
11: Take this paper towel and place it on the cutting board.
12: Iron out the paper towels.

13: Remove the paper towels and peel the paper off of the screen.
And Now You Have A New And Nice Piece Of Paper!

Field Trip!

Yesterday My group and I went to this field trip to BPPT. It was only for our group. We learned heaps of thing s over there. We didn't even know if they could even can make rain. They would use an aeroplane and 1 tonne of soft salt to put in the clouds. They would go under clouds to see if it had enough air pressure. If the clouds had enough air pressure they would turn around and shoot out the 1 tonne of salt.

Try this:
Materials needed:
- A bowl full of salt
-Bowl (2)
-water

Step 1:
Pour the salt into a bowl.
Step2:
Pour the water into a bowl.
Step3:
Put the filled bowls next to each other. Leave them there for a night.
Step 4:
See the result the next morning. Part of the water from the bowl is gone and the salt in the bowl is sort of wet.

The Meeting

Usually our prents come to school for meetings about our subject at school. But today, our parents had a different kind of meeting. They had a meeting with us. We were discussing about the exhibition last year, what we have learned and what are we going to do for the exhibition.

From this meeting I learned how we should build a good team work with our friends and parents. We can be more communicative and cooperative to make our exhibition succesful.
I will try my beat in this coming two weeks to write my journal everyday to add my inquiry and to design my poster so that I can achieve the best.

The Bible's point of veiw

The Bible says that climate is controlled by God, because God is the owner of this whole world and he has the power over everything (Psalm 19:1, Genesis 1:1-26). In Genesis, He commanded Adam to take care of His wonderful world (Genesis1:28). This is supposed to be our mission. We are not assigned to destroy this world we are assigned to protect this world. God gave us abilities that no other living creatures have. Everybody in this world has abilities that are special. That’s why we need to use them for doing good not evil.

All of us need to put a lot of effort to prevent climate change. This is what God wants us to do for maintaining the ecosystem of the world so that all living being can live in harmony (Psalm 24:1).

Inquiry into number 2

Inquiry into: climate change affecting our local environment with bad weather

What is up with drought and Indonesia?

What would happen if climate change is affecting our world with many different ways? It's just like a big boss who asks his little minions to rule the world for him. But in this case climate change is the big boss and it's little minions, well actually big minions are the bad weather all arund us. And they are trying to destroy our world!
This is now the drought minions that are ordered to attack Indonesia by climate change becuase of us were talking about here. Climate change might create the shortage on food suplies in Indonesia. Scientists say that this might cause a major drought to Indonesia if we don't decrease green house gas emmisions.

Forest fires and Indonesia don't get along, not at all.

Indonesia might get forest fire fire because of delaying the attack of the monsoon. Monsoon is a heavy rain which can last for several months which have climatic affects towards the world. If nobody acts quick for the green house gasses, there will be even more forest fires in the world.

The heavy smoke from the forest fire might lead to air pollution which will go up to the Earth's atmosphere creating damages to the ozone layer. This will cause the sun's ultra vioet rays to beam down to Earth hotter than usual.
